Second-Class Roads Will Be Tolled from July 1st

As of tomorrow, second-class roads will be tolled for heavy goods traffic, and the tolls for motorways and first-class roads will increase in two steps. A Decree of the Council of Ministers of 24 June 2022, promulgated today in the State Gazette, introduces rates for the second-class road network. Until now, the rate for second-class roads was zero stotinki. A gradual increase in toll fees for vehicles over 3.5 tones has also been approved – from 1 July this year and from 1 January 2023.

Vehicles between 3.5 and 12 tones, depending on their eco-category, will pay between 6 and 9 stotinki per kilometer on the motorway. The tariff for driving on first-class roads will be between 5 and 8 stotinki per kilometer, and for second-class roads - between 2 and 3 stotinki. From 1 January 2023, the rates for these vehicles will be respectively between 10 and 13 stotinki for a motorway, between 6 and 9 stotinki for a first-class road, and for second-class roads – between 4 and 7 stotinki per kilometer.

From 1 July, vehicles over 12 tones with 2 or 3 axles, depending on their eco-category, will pay between 16 and 20 stotinki for a motorway. The toll fee for crossing a first-class road will be between 13 and 17 stotinki per kilometer, and for second-class roads - between 9 and 11 stotinki. From 1 January 2023, the tariff for these heavy vehicles will be from 26 to 30 stotinki per kilometer on the motorway, between 22 and 25 stotinki for first-class roads and between 19 and 23 stotinki for second-class roads.

For vehicles over 12 tones with 4 or more axles the price per kilometer from 1 July this year will be within the limits of 15 stotinki for a second-class road for a vehicle of category EURO VI, EEV 32 stotinki for the categories EURO 0, I, II when travelling on a motorway. From January 1 next year, the price will be 29 stotinki for a second-class road for the highest Euro class and 43 stotinki per kilometer on the motorway for a heavy vehicle of the categories EURO 0, I, II.

Depending on the vehicle category and the road class, buses between 3.5 and 12 tones will pay between 1 and 5 stotinki per kilometer from July 1, and between 2 and 8 stotinki from January 1 next year and those weighing over 12 tones – between 2 and 6 stotinki/km from July and between 3 and 9 stotinki/km from next year.

From 1 January 2023, the prices of all vignettes will be reduced by 10%. The most preferred e-vignette – the annual one, will cost 87 leva instead of the current 97 leva. The price of the three-month vignette will be 48 leva instead of 54 leva, the monthly – 27 leva instead of 30 leva, the weekly – 13 leva instead of 15 leva and the weekend vignette - 9 leva instead of 10 leva.
