Ukrainian vehicles for humanitarian purposes exempt from toll fees in Bulgaria

8 March 2022

All types of vehicles registered in the Republic of Ukraine carrying out humanitarian aid or transporting refugees from Ukraine are exempt from toll fees - electronic vignette and toll fee - when using the national road network in Bulgaria. This was decided by the Council of Ministers.

The government’s decision complements the measures the state is taking to assist Ukraine in the context of the military emergency and the deepening humanitarian crisis. This ensures timely action to guarantee security and the provision of humanitarian and medical aid.

From payment of vignette fee and toll fee, regardless of its category and technical characteristics, are exempted road vehicles of Ukraine as follows:

-          all road vehicles, irrespective of their category and technical characteristics, which use the paid road infrastructure on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria for the purpose of humanitarian aid;

-          all road vehicles, irrespective of their category and technical characteristics, constituting convoys intended to provide humanitarian or medical aid.

The period during which the measure for toll fee exemption will be in force is from 24 February 2022 until the need for humanitarian and medical aid ceases.
